3.1.0 Release

On behalf of the TK3 Development team I am very happy to announce the release of RPG Toolkit 3.1.0. The core of the release is the complete re-write of the engine in C++ that has led to, amongst other things, a brand new RPG Code interpreter and vector based collision system. The RPG Toolkit is now released under the GNU General Public License (GPL) to ensure the Toolkit will always be protected as open source software.

You will have to spend some time updating your current project before it will function in 3.1.0 as expected, thankfully the release features an RPG Code Updater and Board tile-to-vector conversion routine to help you. These will correct most but not necessarily all compatibility issues.

This release, as with any other, will not be bug free and we welcome your feedback in the way of bug reports. It is important that if and when you report any issues you ensure they are genuine bugs and not a result of incompatible code or human error.

Finally, for those of you using Vista you will have to ensure the software is set to "Run as admin", do so by right-clicking the executable and selecting the option.

  • ReadMe - Details many of the changes and compatibility issues to take note of.
  • Changelog - Lists all changes.

I might actually pick up on a project again. Sadly, SO much work to do, with two website designs to go through, a bunch of reworking to do regarding my clan, and Halo 3 distracting me all the while! I love it so much. I don't really plan on finishing a game, just playing with the gillions of functions. I love the board editor, it is so confusingly fun! All of the new RpgCode functions are fantastic, although it could use a GetItemPos(x!, y!), maybe there is and I just over looked it. Anyways, great job, I am really impressed!

Great to know guys!
I've been around ever since TK2 was around, but I moved away once TK3 first came out.

I found a lot of limitations, and moved onto C++ and now Ogre3D to start programming Direct3D and OpenGL games.

But... I'm still going to say congratulations, because it is now in C++ format, which was a HUGE boost to TKZ programmers because they are now using real C++ coding as well.
I'm sure it was a huge task to convert the compiler, engine, and everything else from VS to C++, but since now you guys are in C++ format, you "should" be able to include / implement 3D using OpenGL and Direct3D libraries and plugins.

Not to mention you guys are now officially under the GNU license, and that's pretty cool as well.
I'll be sure to see how this progresses over the next few years.

BTW... in the old 3.x edition, I noticed a big issue with frame/canvas updates (ie, Animations, time-bars, etc). I remember action animations would be dependent on the "Canvas Update" time rather than regular FPS time (or .ani speed) calculated by the CPU and GPU.
Basically... if you have a slow computer, you'll skip some animation frames, rather than dragging out each individual frame for a slower PC using the "Canvas Updater".
Was this issue resolved?

An answer on the above subject would be useful!

so i just downloade this thing last night and so far ive gotten some of the basics like creating a character profile.....sort of. mostly i only know how to use the things thats already given to u in the toolkit. all the files i downloaded from this site. idk how to use them. if someone could relly help me continue my making in my game id appreciate it. id even ad yalls in my credits and give u a copy of the game for free when im done just to try it out. well thanks everyone.
